With the goal of bringing structure to practicing from 50 yards in, I have designed numerous short game challenges. Recently I discovered rewowned PGA Golf Instructor Mike Labauve's format for a challenge and thought it was great. A few modifications were made and I came up with this version. This is an excellent practice plan that will guide you through a complete short game practice session. Players also have the option to score the results which adds to future goal setting measures. Over the years I have developed putting practice plans ranging from 20 - 60 minutes in length. Then I watched as very few of my students would commit that much time to practicing putting. While observing students spending 10 minutes on the putting green before heading out to play, I decided to come up with just that...a 10-minute putting practice plan. If a players wishes to spend more time on the green then simply add more repetitions to the plan. (download below)
This a complete practice plan for committed students that have an hour to practice. The beauty of this plan is you can score your results. After a few repetitions using this plan you can start setting goals to add challenge and track improvement. (download below)
Coaching my students about the mental side of the game is a passion of mine. I have trained under some of the best mental game coaches over the years...most notably Dr. Rick Jensen and Lanny Bassham. The recommended pre-shot routine is something I learned from Lanny. This is a must add to your golf skills set. (download below)
Having a pre-determined practice session laid out before you head to the driving range is essential. This will allow you to focus on the aspects of your game that either need work or maintained. In this practice session the player will touch on all aspects of the game. This player needed emphasis on controlling wedge distances. Let you last round of golf guide you in setting up a pre-planned practice session. The attached plan was developed for a 20 - handicap player (download below)
Mach 3 Speed training has been a part of my instruction program for the last four years. Speed training is very popular now and I can say that I was an early adopter starting speed training with my students over ten years ago. Mach 3 has proven effective at adding distance for players of all levels. This document shows both a warmup and speed training protocols.(download below)
